Dormant Oil applications are extremely important for controlling scale insects and mites which harbor in the cracks and crevices of the tree’s bark. Dormant Oil is a highly refined form of mineral oil and is non-toxic. A thorough spray application coats the target pest with a thin layer of oil, resulting in the suffocation of the pest. From now through March, temperature ranges, wind and moisture conditions dictate windows of opportunity for maximum effectiveness.
