Poorly Pruned Trees are Dangerous!
September 6, 2013
We know we talk a lot about how tree should be properly pruned and cared for in order to better resist breakage from wind, storms, construction, pests or other events. But there's a reason we keep harping on it! Here is a scene we came across in Dallas just a few days ago:
The owner of this vehicle was very lucky to have not been inside it at the time! While we never want to over prune a tree, strategic pruning to remove excess branch weight, or remove diseased or dead material, is crucial to a tree's health. A tree that has been weakened over time by poor maintenance, watering issues, compaction or construction can become a dangerous hazard tree. One gust of wind can be all it takes to down a very large tree like this.
If you have large trees on your property, it's best to get them inspected by a certified arborist. They can check for problems like damage or decay that could lead to a hazardous situation. They can also recommend the amount of necessary pruning so that your tree can remain healthy and vigorous. And yes, trees need water and feeding!
It's easy to neglect the trees in our landscape; we take it for granted that they will always be there. Don't feel bad if you're guilty of tree neglect...but be sure to call us right away so we can help prevent a devastating loss like the one in the photo!
