Ask an Arborist: What is Tree Cabling?
Q: How does cabling trees not hurt the trees?
A: Obviously, we would rather not have to drill into the vascular tissue of any tree.
However, there are times when a particular tree's structure lends itself to failure due to fault lines or included bark - or both - between co-dominant stems. In those instances, the risk of failure far outweighs the minor damage that hardware like cables and rods will cause in comparison to the additional structural support that hardware can provide.
