Congratulations to Preservation Tree, the Consulting Group on their First Award!
March 14, 2017
Congratulations is in order for the new Preservation Tree, the Consulting Group on their Bronze Leaf Urban Forestry Award by the Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council at the 2017 North Central Texas Urban Forestry Conference held in Grand Prairie at the end of February. They won for their project the State of the Urban Denton Forest. Way to go everyone!
The State of the Denton Urban Forest report includes information on the current structure and condition of the urban forest in Denton, obtained through a citywide assessment of trees, and an accompanying benefits analysis.
Denton’s most comprehensive analysis on their urban forest combined two state-of-the-art approaches to obtain the most accurate and detailed data possible. First, software developed by the USDA Forest Service called i-Tree Eco Assessment analyzes the attributes of a community’s urban forest, and quantify the environmental benefits of trees. Then an Urban Tree Canopy Assessment uses high-resolution aerial imagery to gain a precise picture of tree canopy cover, available planting space, and tree distribution.
A full report of findings and recommendations from Denton’s recently completed Urban Forest Assessment is now available as a digital report on issuu.
